LONG ISLAND (March 25, 2019) – The NBA G League announced today that Long Island Nets head coach Will Weaver was named NBA G League Coach of the Month for March. It marks the first NBA G League Coach of the Month honor in Long Island Nets history and the first for Weaver.

Weaver led Long Island to a 9-1 month, with the Nets’ nine victories marking the most wins in the league in March and also the most wins in any month in franchise history. During that span, the team ranked first in the NBA G League in points per game (121.7), rebounds per game (54.6), free throws made per game (23.2) and free throws attempted per game (30.0). Long Island also tied for second in the league in field goals made per game (44.1) and ranked third in assists per game (27.6). On the defensive end, Long Island held its opponents to 44.6 percent shooting from the field, which marked the third-lowest opponent field goal percentage in the league, and limited opponents to 10.6 3-pointers made per game, which marked the fourth-lowest.

The Nets won their first six games in March as a part of a 10-game winning streak that spanned from Feb. 21 through March 13. The streak marked the longest in the NBA G League this season, as well as the longest in franchise history. After the team’s lone loss in the month on March 15 at Maine, Long Island finished the regular season on a three-game winning streak.

In his first season as head coach, Weaver led Long Island to a 34-16 record, which tied for the best record in the NBA G League. The Nets clinched their first playoff berth in franchise history, finished first in the Eastern Conference and also won the Atlantic Division.

Long Island will play its first playoff game on Friday, March 29, at 7 p.m. at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in the NBA G League Semifinals.
