Charles Barkley Says Kevin Durant & Kyrie Irving Are TOO SOFT To Play For The Knicks!

Like everyone who follows the NBA, Charles Barkley is intrigued by an upcoming free agency period in which both New York and both Los Angeles teams could be major players.

But the Turner analyst on Tuesday warned that not every team and its fans will win the game of musical chairs – and expressed skepticism that two of the biggest prizes would be a good fit for the Knicks spotlight anyway.

“I think they understand there’s a pressure in playing in New York, but it’s not for everybody,” he said when asked broadly whether free agents will be attracted to or repelled by the Knicks’ situation.

Asked specifically about the Warriors’ Kevin Durant, Barkley said, “I’m not sure Durant and Kyrie [Irving] have the mentality to play in New York.”

Under the direction of JMF Sport Center Facility Manager and NY AAU Registrar Joe Armenio, NY Metropolitan has been one of the trailblazers for the AAU Urban Initiative. The goal is to bring AAU sports and resources to the areas of our cities that need it the most.
This past Fall, we worked with the outstanding leadership of the NYPD Brooklyn North to operate a flag football league. To say it was an outstanding success would truly be an understatement. Approximately 100 athletes, coaches and referees all joined together each Saturday to play flag football where the coaches and refs were all NYPD officers, supervisors and even a Chief. By the way, Chief Maddrey often attended the games and was the DJ and chef depending upon the week. His leadership was a true inspiration to the children and his officers. The program was referred to as “Cops and Kids” and was licensed and supported by the AAU. To watch the children interact with the police in an area of New York City that previously was most well known for its homicide rates was truly an inspiration.
Now, we are ready for a basketball league that began in January and also a karate group that will kick off shortly thereafter followed by another flag football league in the Spring.
Special thanks must be extended to Jo Mirza, the National AAU Treasurer and Steve Marcellino, AAU National Legal Counsel for having the vision to bring this program to reality. Their choice of Joe Armenio was also a tremendous decision as evidenced by Joe’s hard word, close oversight of the program and its success.
The good that this AAU program is bringing to the community cannot be adequately described in this brief article  but its impact will be felt for years by both the children and police officers.

YESTERDAY ALAN WILLIAMS NAMED NBA G LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK…AGAIN!

LONG ISLAND (March 11, 2019) – The NBA G League announced today that Brooklyn Nets two-way forward/center Alan Williams was named NBA G League Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 4, through Sunday, March 10. This marks the second NBA G League Player of the Week honor in Long Island Nets history, the first for Long Island this season and the first of Williams’ career.

Williams led Long Island to a 4-0 week, averaging 22.0 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 blocks in 28.6 minutes per game while shooting 47.0 percent (31-of-66) from the field and 89.3 percent (25-of-28) from the free throw line. The Phoenix native scored 20 or more points and led Long Island in scoring in three of the team’s four games. He also posted three double-doubles during the four-game stretch.

Williams began the week with a team-high 20 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a block versus Canton on March 4 and followed it with a game-high-tying 28 points, 12 rebounds, a career-high-tying five assists and a career-high-tying three blocks versus Fort Wayne on March 6. He then posted a team-high 21 points, 12 rebounds and two assists against Maine on March 8, as Long Island clinched its first playoff spot in franchise history with its 129-111 victory over the Red Claws. Williams rounded out the week with 19 points, a game-high 15 rebounds, two assists and a block in the LI Nets’ win over Iowa on March 10. Long Island is currently on a nine-game winning streak, which marks the longest active streak in the NBA G League and ties for the longest streak in the league this season.

In 37 games (all starts) for Long Island this season, Williams has averaged 20.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 blocks in 27.3 minutes per contest. He is currently tied for second in the NBA G League in double-doubles (27), ranks fourth in the league in rebounds per game and is 10th in the league in points per game.  The 26-year-old has also appeared in three games for the Brooklyn Nets this season, recording averages of 3.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in 5.6 minutes per game.
