The LI Nets Take down the Herd and Secure the #1 Spot for the Playoffs!

LONG ISLAND DEFEATS WISCONSIN IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

LONG ISLAND (March 23, 2019) – The Long Island Nets (34-16), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Wisconsin Herd (12-38) 126-125 in the team’s regular season finale at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Long Island’s 34 wins are tied for the most wins in the NBA G League this season.

Brooklyn guard/forward Dzanan Musa scored a team-high 27 points with seven rebounds, six assists and two steals in 32 minutes of action while on assignment with Long Island.

Brooklyn two-way forward/center Alan Williams logged his 31st double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds along with an assist and a steal in 25 minutes,

while two-way guard/forward Theo Pinson added 23 points, three rebounds, five assists and two blocks in 38 minutes in the victory.

Both teams had no issue scoring the ball in the first half. The first and second quarters were mirrors of each other, both with a score of 33-32 in favor of the Nets in each quarter. This led to a two-point Nets lead heading into halftime, 66-64. Theo Pinson and Dzanan Musa led the way for Long Island with 16 points apiece in the first half.

 

Wisconsin came out of the break ready to play defense. The Herd held the Nets to 24 points in the third while scoring 36 points themselves. Xavier Munford scored 16 points in the third period alone to lead the charge for the Herd. After three, the Nets trailed by 10, 100-90.

 

The Nets answered back in the fourth quarter, clawing their way back into the game. A Thomas Wimbush putback dunk with 2:31 remaining made it a one-possession game for the first time in the second half since 3:54 was remaining in the third quarter. Wimbush then hit a 3-pointer with 1:24 to go to give the Nets the lead for good.

 

Wisconsin guard Xavier Munford scored a game-high 31 points with three rebounds, six assists and four steals in 36 minutes. Herd center Brandon McCoy logged a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds along with two assists, a steal and two blocks in 24 minutes.

 

Long Island has a first round bye and will play their next game in the Semifinals of the NBA G League Playoffs.
