Wheelchair All-Star Classic returns, Team LI tryout date is set

What is the Wheelchair Classic? This event is a basketball Charity event founded by Harry “Hank” Carter, as part of Wheelchair Charities, Inc. This is a charity that started in 1973, with the first high school games beginning in 1974 where the top High school seniors and rising Juniors would compete to raise money to support those who are disabled & and wheelchair-bound. These games contestants consisted of all the top players from Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, & the Bronx. but last year 2016 for the first time Long Island was invited to participate thanks to the efforts of Gary Charles of the Fab 48, and Tom Feminella of Upper Room Christian school  who advocated on behalf of Long Island  and lead the Team LI in an upset over Team Queens in their debut in this event.
Well it’s that time again and Team Li will be hosting their tryouts for the Long Island representatives on Thursday April 6th at6:30pm at St Mary’s High School. There is No tryout fee. Just bring your game and be ready to leave it on the floor because ONLYthe BEST will be chosen to represent “Strong Island” in this prestigious and charitable event.

In Honor of Shamoya Mckenzie

13 year old Shamoya Mckenzie was shot in the head by a stray bullet while heading home from basketball practice with her mother and two other family members. The incident happened in Mount Vernon, NY on December 31st, 2016 just hours before the New Year. Shamoya was a star basketball player who played on many tems including the Mount Vernon Junior Knights, the Mount Vernon Lady Elites, and the Mount Vernon High School JV Lady Knights. Her ultimate goal was to attend the University of Conneticut (UCONN) and then transition into the WNBA.

Her mother and the entire family are devasted by this tragic, brutal and senseless act of gun violence within their community.

Based on this unfortunate circumstance they would appreciate your support to help with these sudden expenses.

Thank you in advance and continue to pray for them as they mourn this tragic and senseless death of their angel.

iLuvBBall is doing their part to help spread the word and would appreciate if you could donate to their GoFundMe campaign if you can. Thanks.

#WhereTheyAtWed iLuvBBall Alum Sammy Robinson Awarded

Today’s #WhereTheyAtWed feature is iLuvBBall Alum Sammy Robinson formerly of Lawrence High School and Open Season AAU. Now at St. John Fisher College, Sammy has earned the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending on January 1st, 2016. The Cedarhurst, LI native was also named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) – North Rookie of the Week as well.

In just 25 minutes of playing time Robinson went 7-for-9 from the field in the two games over the week, helping the Cardinals achieve a 1-1 record. After collecting five points in the week’s first game against Colby Sawyer, the freshman notched 14 against Penn State-Behrend to set a career high. Robinson saw plenty of success from downtown during the two game stretch, hitting 5-of-6, but what else is new for this long-range sniper!!!! We’ve been seeing him hit from downtown since he was a little youngster playing with the LI/Valley Stream Shore Shots!

Go back with us and catch our interview with Sammy from our 1st Annual #IDtop4 Showcase
